USEFUL INFO

Location

For international guests, we recommend flying either to Trieste Airport or to Venice Marco Polo:

  • Trieste Airport (TRS) – very close to the city and well connected (~30 minute direct train, from €4.40). For Londoners, there is a direct flight from Stansted
  • Venice Marco Polo (VCE) – ~1.5h away from Trieste but many more flight options. If you decide to fly to Venice, there are 3 options to get to Trieste: (i) car rental, (ii) train from Venezia Mestre station (€28.00 for the fast train, “Freccia Bianca” or “Freccia Rossa”, try to avoid slower regional trains), or (iii) GoOpti (airport transfer service, from €50.00 pp)

Duino Castle is about 30 minutes from the city center. Depending on needs, we will look into organising a bus / shuttle for our guests, so that might be the recommended option.
Otherwise the castle can easily be reached by car / cab and there is parking inside.

Hotels (in no particular order) AirBnB

AirBnB is always a good option. We recommend staying central, in the “Borgo Teresiano” or “Cavana / Old Town” areas.
Trieste is a small city, rich in history, and was once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire which has influenced the local architecture, cuisine and culture. The places recommended below are all within walking distance of one another (with the exception of the Miramare castle). Should you wish to visit these sites, it’s possible to do so in one day.
  • Piazza Unità d’Italia
  • Castle and Church of San Giusto
  • Piazza Ponterosso
  • Cavana and the old town area
  • Miramrare Castle and museum (you will have to take the bus to reach the castle – it’s about a 20 minute bus ride, but is worth it!)
The Office of Tourism organises guided tours (available also in English) that walk you through the main points of interest across the city, discussing their history and curiosities. The tour lasts about 2 hours and tickets can be purchased here. Highly recommended.
Local Cuisine:
  • Buffet Clai, a family run small restaurant. This is well-known in town to serve local dishes at good prices and of good quality. The men is expansive from pasta to meats and salads. It can get quite busy, though it’s possible to book in advance or to take food away
  • Osmiza, a small eatery (usually what looks to be someone’s house in the city outskirts, or further afield) which makes and serves its own wine often accompanied by cold cuts, cheese, olives, homemade bread, etc. There are multiple ones that are open throughout the year. Please click here to view which are open and where
  • Eppinger, a cafe and producer of local sweets
Generally good Italian food (all of which are places we’ve tried):
  • Caffè San Marco for breakfast (beware of the seagulls, they may come for your croissant!)
  • Home Sapore di Casa for brunch
  • Civico 6 for pizza
  • Menarosti for seafood
  • Sacher Cafe for good sacher (Austrian chocolate cake) and coffee
  • Double Tree by Hilton for afternoon tea in an old bank vault
For the “movida” which in Italian refers to the lively and happening areas:
  • Piazza del Barbacan
  • Piazza della Borsa and Via Del Ponte
  • Piazza Unità

The wedding

Dress code is formal, no black. For women, please avoid all white, cream or red.

We require all guests to wear hats.

Please be aware that this is an adult-only wedding (exception for children under 12 months)

We are inviting you to celebrate our wedding and do not expect any gifts. Particularly those coming from abroad, or far, your presence is a present in itself. If you’d like to gift us something nonetheless, we are grateful for any honeymoon contributions.
